Guten tag friends! It's me Fin, the Pier 5 Hotel's Shark Mascot! If you don't speak Deutsch, or German, 'Guten tag' means good day. Why am I speaking German you ask? Well that's because the Christmas Village in Baltimore has returned to the Inner Harbor! I definitely recommend you and your friends and family stop by before they officially close shop. It's perfect to get your holiday shopping in or just to experience the culture! I took my friend, Barnacle the Bulldog, from the Admiral Fell Inn, and he loved it. Being the history buff that he is, he gave me an insight on how the Christmas Village here in Baltimore, is modeled after the real Christmas Markets in Germany!
You might notice there's a beautiful blond woman with a giant crown frollicking around the village and that's because she's the Nuremberg Christkind! If you're not sure with who she is, not to worry because I took notes from my good friend Barnacle. Since 1969 and every other year thereafter, the Nuremberg Christkind is selected to represent the spirit of Christmas in Germany. She wears a long white dress with golden stars, a golden crown, and has long blonde curls. She is the German equivalent to the American children's Santa Claus! How crazy is that.
If you're looking to not get into the holiday rush, I definitely reccomend you go on a weekday. Being less crowded, you can actually walk and experience what the Village has to offer! If you haven't already like them on Facebook for the latest news and updates. Currently, if you take a photo, you can win a chance to fly to Germany!
